Generator Service & Repair Done Right

Generator service and repair for San Diego standby and portable generators. We do scheduled preventive-maintenance contracts, emergency repair calls, annual load bank testing, fuel polishing, and warranty service for every major brand. Our techs are factory-trained and we keep common parts on the truck.

How We Work

Whether you need power tomorrow or want a permanent unit in the side yard, the steps are the same: size it right, install it clean, monitor it.

1. Inspection and diagnosis

We open the unit, pull codes from the controller, inspect the oil, fuel, coolant, battery, and ATS, and identify what’s wrong (or what’s about to be).

2. Service or repair

Routine PM (oil, filter, coolant, plugs, battery) we do on-site in one visit. Component repairs (alternator, ATS, controller) we quote first; common parts are on the truck.

3. Load bank test

Annual load bank test runs the unit at full rated load to expose hidden issues, burn off wet-stacking, and document that it will start under load when you need it.

When You Need Generator Service & Repair

Call us for service when:

  • Annual PM is due — manufacturer warranty requires documented oil/filter/coolant service, usually yearly or every 100–250 hours.
  • Unit won’t start or won’t transfer — failed exercise cycle, dead battery, fuel issue, ATS fault, or a controller error code.
  • Hasn’t run in a year+ — old fuel, gummed injectors, dead batteries. Don’t find out during the next outage.
  • Code shows on the controller — yellow warnings and red faults need diagnosis before the unit derates or won’t start.
  • Annual load bank test is required — required for many code-mandated standby units (medical, life-safety, data center).
  • Fuel is old or contaminated — diesel storage tanks need polishing every 1–3 years to remove water and microbial growth.

Lock in a service contract and the unit gets quarterly checks plus priority response — far cheaper than a no-start during an outage. Call: (619) 257-2867

What Affects the Cost of Generator Service & Repair

Service pricing is per-visit or by annual contract. Depends on:

  • Scope of visit. Basic PM (oil/filter/inspection) is a flat rate. Full service with coolant flush and load bank is higher.
  • Annual contract vs. one-off. Contracts include quarterly visits and priority response — significantly cheaper per year than emergency calls.
  • Generator size. Larger units (200kW+) use more oil and coolant and take longer per visit.
  • Load bank test. Required annually for some commercial installs; we bring the load bank on-site.
  • Repairs. Quoted after diagnosis. Common wear items (battery, belts, hoses, filters) are stocked on the truck.
  • Travel. Within the San Diego metro is included; outlying areas get a flat trip charge.

A service contract is the cheapest insurance policy on your standby unit — call and we'll quote the right plan for your equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should a standby generator be serviced?

At minimum annually — oil, filter, coolant, battery, ATS inspection. Heavier-use or code-mandated units (medical, data center) get quarterly service. Most manufacturer warranties require documented annual service.

What brands do you service?

All major standby brands: Generac, Kohler, Cummins, Onan, Briggs & Stratton, and most diesel portable units. We carry the common parts and can order anything else next-day.

My generator won't start — can you do an emergency call?

Yes. Service-contract customers get priority response. Non-contract emergency calls are dispatched as availability allows — usually same-day within the San Diego metro.

What is a load bank test and do I need one?

A load bank applies a controlled electrical load so the generator runs at full rated capacity. It’s required annually for life-safety installs and recommended for any standby unit that rarely sees real load — it burns off wet-stacking and proves the unit will perform when called on.

Can you service a generator I bought somewhere else?

Yes. We service all major brands regardless of who installed them. We don’t need to have sold or installed the unit to service it.
