Generators San Diego

Generators San Diego is a C-10 licensed electrical contractor working out of a yard on Commercial Street in Logan Heights. We install whole house standby generators, build commercial and industrial power systems, repair and maintain every major brand, and rent towable units across San Diego County. We have been doing it here since 2009.

How Long We Have Been Doing This

We started in 2009 with one service truck and a handful of standby units in East County, and the work has grown outward from there. The fire seasons of 2003 and 2007 had already changed how San Diego thought about backup power, and the arrival of planned public safety shutoffs a decade later changed it again. What has not changed is that most of the value in this trade sits in getting the sizing and the placement right the first time, and in coming back every year to change the oil.

The Story Behind The Company

The company exists because of a house in Alpine that lost power for four days and had a brand new generator sitting on a pad beside it that would not start. Dead battery, no service since the install, and a company that had stopped answering the phone. That is a common enough story in this industry, and it is the reason we built the business around annual maintenance and a rental fleet rather than around volume installs. The equipment is broadly the same wherever you buy it. What happens afterwards is the actual product.

The Crew

Our technicians are employees rather than subcontractors, they work on generators full time rather than fitting them around general electrical jobs, and several of them came out of diesel and marine engine work, which is exactly the right background for the larger plant. Everybody who answers the phone has been on a truck, so you get a straight answer about whether your side yard will take a 26kW unit rather than a promise that it will. Factory trained on Generac, Kohler and Cummins, and comfortable on Caterpillar, MTU and Onan iron as well.

The Brands And Equipment We Work With

We sell and install Generac, Kohler, Cummins, Champion and Briggs & Stratton, and we service those plus Onan, Winco, Caterpillar and MTU regardless of who put them in. On the rental side we run our own fleet of towable diesel units from 20kW to 1MW, all Tier 4 Final certified, with sound-attenuated models for events. That range is what lets us quote a whole house generator, a commercial standby system, an industrial diesel installation, a portable backup setup, a towable rental or a straightforward repair without sending anybody elsewhere.

Why We Like The Work

There is something satisfying about a trade where the whole job is judged on one day you hope never comes. Nobody notices a generator that works. Everybody remembers the one that did not. Getting a call in October from a customer in Poway saying the shutoff came and they never noticed is the best feedback this business produces. We also get to work across the whole county in a week, from a hillside lot in La Jolla to a shipyard in National City to an avocado grove east of Escondido, which is a better way to spend a Tuesday than most.
