Frequently Asked Questions

Everything we get asked across generator rentals, service, and installation — grouped by service so you can jump to what you need.

Generator Rentals

How fast can you deliver a rental in San Diego?

Most rentals deliver next day. Same-day is possible when we have a unit on the yard — call us and we’ll check.

What sizes do you stock?

Diesel and natural-gas from 25kW to 500kW. Most-rented sizes: 25kW for small sites and events, 100kW for mid-jobs, 250–500kW for commercial and multifamily.

Do rentals include fuel?

Single-day rentals usually include fuel. Multi-day and long-term rentals quote fuel as a separate line, with scheduled refill delivery included.

Can I rent for a single event?

Yes. Daily rentals are common for weddings, shoots, festivals, and pop-ups. We size the unit, deliver, place it quietly, and pick up after.

What about PSPS or fire-season standby?

We do pre-stage contracts for businesses in PSPS-affected areas — we stage a unit on your property and monitor regional weather and PSPS alerts so you have power before the shutoff hits.

Generator Service & Repair

How often should a standby generator be serviced?

At minimum annually — oil, filter, coolant, battery, ATS inspection. Heavier-use or code-mandated units (medical, data center) get quarterly service. Most manufacturer warranties require documented annual service.

What brands do you service?

All major standby brands: Generac, Kohler, Cummins, Onan, Briggs & Stratton, and most diesel portable units. We carry the common parts and can order anything else next-day.

My generator won't start — can you do an emergency call?

Yes. Service-contract customers get priority response. Non-contract emergency calls are dispatched as availability allows — usually same-day within the San Diego metro.

What is a load bank test and do I need one?

A load bank applies a controlled electrical load so the generator runs at full rated capacity. It’s required annually for life-safety installs and recommended for any standby unit that rarely sees real load — it burns off wet-stacking and proves the unit will perform when called on.

Can you service a generator I bought somewhere else?

Yes. We service all major brands regardless of who installed them. We don’t need to have sold or installed the unit to service it.

New Generator Installation

How long does a new generator install take?

From signed quote to commissioned unit: typically 4–8 weeks. Most of that is permit turnaround and unit lead time. The on-site install itself is usually 1–3 days.

What size do I need for my house?

Most San Diego homes do well with a 14kW–26kW air-cooled unit on natural gas. Larger homes with AC + EV charging + electric range often need 24kW–26kW. We do a free site walk and load calculation before quoting.

What brand should I buy?

Generac dominates the residential market and has the broadest service network. Kohler is premium with longer warranties. Cummins is the standard for commercial standby. We sell all three and recommend based on your use case.

Do you handle permits and inspections?

Yes. We pull the electrical and gas permits, coordinate the city inspector visit, and handle any corrections. You don’t deal with the city.

How loud is a permanent standby generator?

Modern air-cooled standby units run around 60–66 dB at 23 feet — about the same as an AC condenser. Liquid-cooled commercial units are louder and usually placed farther from occupied space.
