We submit the electrical and mechanical permit package to your jurisdiction, and to the HOA where there is one. Once it clears, the pad goes down, the gas line runs and gets pressure tested, and the conductors are pulled back to the service panel.

3. Transfer switch and tie-in

The automatic transfer switch goes in ahead of or beside the main panel depending on whether you are doing whole-house or partial-load coverage. This is the part that has to be right, and it is the part a handyman install usually gets wrong.

4. Commissioning and inspection

Sizing: what your house actually needs

A 14kW to 18kW unit covers essentials plus one air conditioning compressor on a modest house.
